The two storytellers and figurative painters Jeffrey Chong Wang and Tokuhiro Kawai will fill the walls of DCG Rome with captivating and surreal canvases. Beijing-raised and Canada-based artist Jeffrey Chong Wang fuses a personal and surrealist vision with a refined and realistic pictorial technique to tell stories of Chinese everyday life. His works, characterised by a soft and vintage palette, remind us of the iconography of Wood’s American Gothic style. On the other hand, the Japanese Tokuhiro Kawai leads us into a world of magic and fantasy, filled with bright and and floating figures. Inspired by Western Renaissance, the artist elaborates on legends and myths adopting an intriguing visual language that finds its roots in storytelling and traditional pictorial iconography.
