EMI KATSUTA
Nata a Nagasaki nel 1983, Emi Katsuta è una giovane scultrice giapponese. Si è laureata in scultura alla Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music nel 2007 e ha ricevuto il suo Master alla Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music nel 2009. Utilizzando pittura acrilica, resina e a volte tessuti di lana applicati su legno di cipresso giapponese, Emi Katsuta crea irresistibili sculture raffiguranti bimbi-clown e soffici animaletti umanizzati dall’aria adorabile. L’arte di Katsuta vuole restituire all’osservatore il ricordo di quando eravamo bambini e la sensazione di felice leggerezza e dolce innocenza che pervade il racconto dell dell’infanzia. I personaggi dai colori sgargianti, sono resi unici dall’attenzione dell’artista per i dettagli, nella decorazione dei costumi che indossano e nelle molteplici e ricercate espressioni trasognate e lontane. Katsuta esibisce in Giappone dal 2007 e ha vinto il Geidai Art Praza Award a Tokyo nel 2008. Esporrà le sue opere per la prima volta in Europa con la DCG.

Born in Nagasaki in 1983, Emi Katsuta is a young Japanese wood sculptor. She graduated in sculpture from the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in 2007 and earned her MFA at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2009. Using acrylic paint, resin and sometimes even cloth and wool on Japanese cypress wood, Emi Katsuta is known for creating her irresistible baby-like sculptures of female clowns, humanized fluffy animals and adorable-looking children. Katsuta’s art aims to remind the viewer of the blissful carelessness and innocence of childhood. Her bright-coloured characters come to life thanks to her eye to details, from their outfit design to their dreamy facial expressions. Katsuta has been exhibiting extensively around Japan since 2007 and won the Geidai Art Praza Award in Tokyo in 2008. She will display her artworks for the first time in Europe at the Dorothy Circus Gallery in 2020.
